Meet the owners

Nick Hawley

I live in Oshkosh with my beautiful wife and 3 kids. I have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science & Health Promotion from UW-Oshkosh. Coming out of college, I was a Personal Trainer for a few years before moving into management. Alpha Fitness is the 4th business I have managed over the past 12+ years.

My passion is both helping people and fitness, so this is the perfect profession for me. I’m extremely passionate about educating people about the benefits of lifestyle change.

Some of my interests include exercise, sports (huge Packer fan), coaching, cooking (specifically smoking meats), traveling, astronomy, and spending time with my family.

A couple of my favorite movies are Old School & The Hangover. I’m a huge foodie and my favorites are pizza and BBQ. You could probably add tacos to that list as well.

My advice is to have balance in your life. The 80-20 rule (make healthy decisions 80% of the time) has stood the test of time because it works. People always ask if there is a magic pill… Yes, there is… It’s moving daily and having some discipline with nutrition. There are no quick fixes, invest your time and money in lifestyle change.

I live right here in Winneconne with my beautiful wife Emily (whom you will see at the club) and four kids. I grew up in Necedah, WI, another small town of about 900 people, and I love the small town vibe!

After practicing in the Oshkosh area for about 7 years, I opened my chiropractic clinic here in Winneconne, Winnebago Wellness, in 2022. I dreamed of the opportunity to one day have a “clinic/gym hybrid” to promote health and wellness and a healthy, active lifestyle.

Before becoming a chiropractor, I was also a personal trainer and I have my Strength and Conditioning Specialist certification. I love to see the confidence that grows in people as they progress in their health and fitness journey! Finding your inner “Alpha” is what we like to call it!

In my free time, I enjoy being with my family along with boating, coaching, the outdoors, and cheering on my Vikings! I am a Wisconsin sports fan with the exception of the Vikes! SKOL!

Lastly, my advice for people on their health journey is to “plan your work and work your plan.” It is very easy to get overwhelmed by all the different aspects and tips and “tricks” of health and fitness.  All of that information can be a lot to take in and can leave you feeling paralyzed on what to do; so no change is made. My advice is to concentrate on a couple of things at a time and make a plan on how you are going to stick to those things to build a habit.  As Aristotle put it, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.”

Alpha Manager

Hello everyone, my name is Brent Buehler. I was born and raised in Onalaska, WI. I moved to Oshkosh when I was hired by the Oshkosh Police Department. A few years after moving to Oshkosh, my wife, Lisa, and I moved our family to the Winneconne-Omro area as we wanted to raise our family in a smaller community.

Lisa and I now have two grown and married daughters and one grandson. They all live in the immediate area and we are fortunate enough to get to spend a lot of time with them.  For me, staying physically fit has always been a priority. It started in high school sports and then transferred over to my profession as a Police Officer. I have always enjoyed working out, going to the gym, and keeping myself in good shape.

After I retired from the Police Department, I continued to stay active. I work at Alpha Fitness and I am there in the mornings. One of the greatest pleasures I get from working at Alpha Fitness is getting to know everyone who comes in and getting to see the progress they make in their fitness journey.

One day a week is “Grandpa Daycare” where my grandson spends the day with me.  I started a small woodworking business called Brent’s Barn where Lisa and I go to different vendor shows to sell the items that I make.  Lisa and I enjoy kayaking and boating on the lakes and rivers in the area. We also enjoy bike riding and finding new bike trails to explore. Some of our favorite places to go biking are in northern WI.

Office Staff

Hello! My name is Emily Mootz and I am the wife to one of the owners of Alpha, Adam Mootz! I live right here in Winneconne with Adam and our 4 amazing kiddos! I was born and raised in small town Elroy, WI so joining the community of Winneconne makes me excited that my kids get to grow up in a smaller town just like I did! Like I said above, I have 4 beautiful kids (all born in a 4 and a half year time span!)

I have been a stay-at-home mom since my first was born, so almost 9 years! I am so blessed to be able to stay at home with my kids but also so excited to have joined the Alpha team! Before becoming a mom, I had worked many jobs! I have a 4 year business marketing degree from the University of Minnesota (not to worry, I am still a Badger fan), with a retail merchandising minor. Retail was always my main job, working anywhere from Saks 5th Avenue in downtown Minneapolis, to working retail as a store manager at the Mall of America. Quickly finding out retail hours were not for me, I switched gears and spent the last few years before becoming a mom working as an insurance agent with Farmers Insurance.

Since becoming a mom, fitness has become a passion of mine. I got to see firsthand all of the changes and hardships our bodies go through during all of the stages of pregnancy and motherhood, so fitness became not only a way to maintain health, but as an outlet from the daily grind of raising a family. After almost 9 years of being out of the workforce, it has been such an amazing opportunity coming back to work and being able to work at a family-owned place such as Alpha! I am very much enjoying my time here and meeting all of the amazing members!

I grew up in Butte des Morts and now live in Winneconne with my amazing husband, three boys, and our two dogs. I feel very blessed to have been part of this wonderful community my whole life!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. Coming out of college, I was a personal trainer for five years at a private gym. Although I loved training, I decided to stay home with my young children at the time as well as run an in-home childcare.

Holistic wellness, nutrition, and fitness have always been a passion of mine and I am super excited to return to the field!

Some of my interests include running, trying new recipes, cooking (yes, even grocery shopping), reading, watching my boys play soccer, and spending time with my family.

A fun fact about me is that my dream job since I was little was to be an oceanographer and work at Sea World with the dolphins (hard to do if you don’t want to leave Wisconsin I guess). I have worked at the same restaurant for over 30 years and I love it still! I am a huge advocate for using food as medicine, but my biggest weakness is dark chocolate (I eat it daily).

A couple of my favorite movies are Top Gun Maverick and, to be honest, I would say Christmas Hallmark movies (I could watch them year round…and I do).

My advice is consistency over perfection. Make time for yourself and realize that progress doesn’t happen overnight…give yourself grace! Lifestyle change is not a destination, it’s a journey…learn from it and enjoy each day!

Fun Fact:  I have been involved in this building as an instructor/trainer since 2009!  Yes, I've worked for all the owners of this facility. I'm very excited to work for Nick and Adam! I love the newness, the dedication, and the professionalism they bring to the gym (and Brent, too!). What started out as a "Gee, let’s see if anyone will show up for a class." turned into a whole new career for me. After teaching for a couple of years, I finally became certified through NASM in 2014, and completed a second certificate in 2016 (EIM) and have been going strong ever since. Currently, I'm only teaching early morning bootcamp classes two days a week, but I'm there working out most mornings of the week, and have started taking advantage of the YOGA classes being offered too.

During the school year, I work as a Health Room Assistant in the Elementary School, which I love! The kids keep us smiling all day long with their stories.  When not at work or at the gym, I enjoy gardening, going up north to our cabin, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

My husband and I recently celebrated our 32nd anniversary and are excited to meet our new grandchildren - the first one is arriving next month and the second in November!

Personal Trainer

I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Kinesiology-Exercise & Movement Science. I am also a Winneconne alumni, and cannot wait to return home.

My love for fitness started as early as I can remember. I’ve played competitive sports my entire life, and when that chapter ended, I looked to continue to find ways to stay active. Being in the gym and pushing myself to become a better version each time I step through the doors is a passion of mine.

My personal training certification is through ACE and am I currently studying for the CSCS exam which is the gold standard in the industry.

Since 2023, I have been training clients at Anytime Fitness and RecWell at the University of Wisconsin. Additionally, I have taught a variety of classes ranging from 1 to 6 people, but gear more towards strength and hypertrophy training.

If you see me around, don’t hesitate to say hello. I’d love to work with you to meet any fitness goal you have!

Yoga Instructor

From a young age, fitness has been an integral part of my life. I started by joining my mom at aerobic classes and following at home workout videos. Who can forget the VHS of Cindy Crawford’s workout from 1992 - my personal favorite!

Initially, yoga didn’t appeal to me. I was more into the fast paced workouts and yoga seemed too slow for my liking. However, as an adult, I became intrigued with yoga poses, and all that yoga had to offer. This didn’t come natural or easy though. Thankfully, my stubbornness came to good use when I was determined to prove myself wrong.

Now, after 15 years of practicing yoga, I realize that it’s about much more than striking a pose or achieving flexibility. Yoga has taught me valuable lessons beyond the physical. It’s about connecting mind, breath, and body, creating a dance within oneself.

Join me on this journey as we cultivate kindness and compassion towards ourselves and others through the practice of yoga.

meet DEanna

Yoga Instructor

I starting practicing yoga 17 years ago. At that time, I was a distance runner and personal trainer. A friend invited me to do yoga. My initial thought was “I’ll go, but it will be easy and boring”. Wrong on both accounts! I quickly joined a studio in Appleton.

Yoga filled a void of creating stillness in my mind while moving my body. I continued my personal practice until completing my RYT200 to be a registered teacher in 2018. I recently completed RYT500hr this spring in Costa Rica.

Yoga is whatever you want it be. It is a workout, yes. But more importantly, a work-in. My favorite part of guiding people through yoga is hearing how their body feels better daily. Or when the practice goes beyond their mat into their work or home life, a shift happens.

When not teaching yoga, I enjoy time with my husband, Mike, and our 2 doggies. Mike is a Winneconne native and we just moved back to the area. We are recent empty nesters, as our daughter is attending the University of Utah.

I look forward to meeting you on your mat!

Yoga Instructor

Hi, I’m Anna and I grew up in Kimberly WI. Admittedly, I never placed a high value on athleticism or physical exercise in my youth (which, if you know Kimberly at all, might be a little surprising to you). But when my body became riddled with chronic health ailments at a young age, I learned that no one was going to be able to tell me the root cause of my complex problems, and no one was going to be able to do the work for me. So, I began my own deep dive into educating myself on overall health and wellness. This naturally led me to the understanding of the power of movement.

This seemingly basic knowledge, that physical exercise is vitally important to overall well-being, is more than likely what brings you to the gym in the first place. It finally clicked for me that strength, stability, flexibility, balance, and alignment are all indeed pillars of health and key ingredients to help our organs detoxify themselves. That, along with a positive mindset and some faith, our bodies are better able to heal themselves, little by little! The healing can even be miraculous! I have found that Yoga in particular focuses on all of these things, as well as another key element of physical and mental health: how we move with, and expand our Breath! So if you’re ready to do the work, if you’re ready to heal, then it would be my honor to help guide you to and back from the uncertain, yet surprisingly wonderful, places of growth, wisdom, and peace that exist within our physical body, as well as our minds and souls. The type of yoga I teach is mainly Vinyasa Yoga, which is an active and movement-based type of yoga with fluid, dance-like motions.

I also incorporate Hatha yoga techniques, where we spend slightly longer periods holding strengthening poses, as well as some moderate stretching. I end each session by holding space for about a 5-minute meditation. I ask that you please also respect this space for your fellow yogis. Outside of yoga and meditation, I work full-time as a dental hygienist in Appleton. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Travis, who is a mechanical engineer, our two cats, and friends & family. I enjoy hiking, traveling, camping, kayaking, and trying new cafes & restaurants. I look forward to meeting you and being a member of Alpha Fitness!
